2. Outstanding Features

Valldemossa is a locality of Mallorca of sublime beauty and absolute charm. Its narrow stoned streets surrounded by the local houses create a very special atmosphere in the entire zone. Valldemossa is the home of the only Mallorcan saintess Santa Catalina Tomás. Its main attraction is the Cartuja of Valldemosa and the memories that were left here in the winter of 1838-39 when the romantic couple Chopin and George Sand stayed here. Chopin composed here his Preludes Op. 28 and Sand wrote A winter in Mallorca. Apart from these illustrious celebrated guests, many other important top people stayed for a length of time in the Cartuja, such as Rubén Darío, Jorge Luis Borges, Jovellanos and Santiago Rusiñol, amongst many others.
