Train to Soller - Majorca

The Soller Railroad company was created in 1905 with the object to facilitate the transport of passengers and goods between Soller & Palma, avoiding the road that goes up and down the Sierra de Alfabia mountain range which is named Coll de Soller. Some years later in 1912, the Soller train began to operate, covering the 27,3 km distance which separate Palma from Soller. The following year in 1913, the tram which connects Soller to the Port of Soller was inaugurated. And finally in 1929 the railway line between Palma & Soller was electrically powered and they began to promote tourist trips.

Apart from the attractive natural surroundings to be seen on tour of the train between Palma and Soller, it also highlights the station buildings of Palma, Son Sardina, Bunyola & Soller. There are also some spectacular tunnels, especially the one which is 2.876 mts long, as well as the viaduct “Dels Cinc-Ponts”, which has five arches with lights and is 8 metres high, plus the viewing point of Des Pujol d’en Banya which offers the most impressive views overlooking the valley of Soller & the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range.

The main attractions on the tram between the village of Soller to the Port is its passageway through the centre of Soller, the iron bridge over the stream “Torrent Major” and the views of the bay, the natural port, the beach and the picturesque urban nucleus with its restaurants and cafeterias.

Both the Soller train and tram still conserve today, all of their original charms from the 20th century, and over the years have become one of the most popular tourist attractions in Majorca.
