2. Outstanding Features

The neighbourhood of Santa Catalina is to be found on a hillock of the city brushing arms with the neighbourhoods of Son Españolet and of Son Armadans. It is one of the typical zones of "Ciutat de Palma" as it is called by the inhabitants. It has a well-known market called "Mercat de Santa Catalina" or Mercado de Santa Catalina, which still conserves the flavour of the traditional markets of Mallorca and where it is possible to buy typical products from the Majorcan countryside and from Mallorca in general.

Historically it was a fishing neighbourhood of Mallorca, as its location was very near to the sea, this gave way to (and are still conserved) the typical dwellings of one or two stories, with their characteristic terraces with facades with Majorcan shutters, some of them have a small garden which allows us to remember what the neighbourhood was like, in not so far off times; Santa Catalina conserves the style of neighbourhoods with low houses and quiet tranquil streets.
