2. Oustanding Features

Orient is a small town of the municipality of Bunyola situated in the centre of the valley of the same name. Encircled by mountains, between the Serra d'Alfàbia and the Puig d'Alaró, it is one of the most fertile zones of Mallorca. In the highest part of the town, at about 450 metres above sea level, the parish church of Sant Jordi can be found, it was built in the XVIII century over an old oratory from the XIII century. In the lowest part of the locality in question, there are still conserved some public washing places. The unique and well-liked hotel Son Palou is to be found in the square with the name Orient. On the outskirts of the town is the L'Hermitage, an antique mansion house reconverted into a rural hotel and restaurant. Next to the road which communicates the village with Bunyola and Alaró the restaurant Orient, can be found, where amongst other specialities of the traditional Mallorcan cuisine, one of the main dishes is roasted piglet.

The first impression one receives of Orient, is that it is set in a beautiful valley. It is like a town taken off a postcard, as if it has emerged from Nature and is yet another elevation of the same land. Its peacefulness, the stone houses and the streest with steps are antological. All of this situated in a valley as if it was taken from a postcard, especially in spring. Orient is relatively near Palma de Mallorca, our Balearic capital. Orient is an ideal place for doing excursions and going hiking.
