Mallorca has shed its skin – it has changed from package holiday island to pleasure island. Treasures from countless centuries have been given a stylish new makeover. These days we enjoy the cultural heritage from the Phoenicians, the Baleares (the original inhabitants, famed for their skill with stone slings), nomads, pirates, Greeks, Romans, Moors, Venetians, Frenchmen, Spaniards and all the others who adored this green island. Here you can live in ancient castles, farmhouses and renovated palaces. Today’s Mallorca is a place where lovers of luxury, fans of culture and connoisseurs of life can really enjoy themselves.

The City
Palma de mallorca

This pearl of the Mediterranean is a mini continent in its own right. Mallorca’s varied scenery has made the island a dream place for film-makers and advertisers. You can see the variety for yourself through the windscreen of your hire car. Within 20 minutes, you can drive from the capital Palma to sensationally beautiful Valldemossa in the mountains to the north-west, the village where the composer Frederic Chopin lived with his sweetheart, the authoress George Sand. Drive another 10 minutes, and you are in the village of Deià, former home of the poet Robert Graves. If you go southeast of Palma, you will find a picturesque fishing idyll and magnificent fjord-like bays near the village of Portopetro 45 minutes away. A slice of the West Indies in Mallorca – the vast beach of Es Trenc – lies a few miles to the west. Head north, towards Capdepera, and you will be amazed by the mediaeval castle built on a city wall. Golden sandy beaches are flanked by lofty mountains, straight out of “The Fellowship of the Ring”. The golf courses gleam, and the sea is deepest turquoise. Everywhere there are forts, monasteries, treasures, myths and legends.
