2. Outstanding Features

Cala Ratjada is to be found in the extreme northeast of the island of Mallorca, at about 65 kilometres from the capital, Palma. It is the main coastal port and the most evolved in the district of Capdepera.

This area of Mallorca is famous for the abruptness of its coastline, as well as for the great quantity of coves that can be found there. Capdepera has kilometres of spectacular coastline with lovely beaches, the majority having the blue flag for quality awarded by the European Union. Both the cleanliness and the services of these beaches are of great importance.

This marvellous coastline goes from Cala Mesquida to Cala Agulla, and it has been named as a special protected area and a sanctuary for birdlife. It is one of the few places of the island where the pine groves stand out over the beach. Tourism in all its forms in this area is constantly on the increase. Cala Ratjada and its surrounding areas have become a natural paradise. The beaches which are near this area are: La Pedruscada, Son Moll, Cala Rajada, Cala Gat, L'Olla, Cala Lliteres, Cala Agulla and Cala Moltó. As well as the beaches, the marine sports port is also of prime importance in which an important fishing activity takes place, the lighthouse of Capdepera and the March Palace, property of the March family, are also of great interest.
